Ashland Evening Lions Club met January 5 at Celebrations by Sallie! Special guest of 1st Vice District Governor Forrest Conrad was prospective member Theo Lathman. Bill Kiser, County Veterans Services Officer was the speaker for the evening. His group offers services to all honorably discharged veterans. Agency budget is funded as part of the usage of monies raised by county property taxes. His goal is to reach out to all veterans; but, sadly, many remain unaware.

President Clarence Hofer commented on the great loss to our club in the past month with the deaths of members Bill Wolfe, Lee Robertson, Dee Keplinger and Dick Kerr; and also the passing of member Al Kieft’s wife Thela. These will be friends who will be greatly missed. 1st Vice President Jim Hofer conducted the secret balloting for Lion of the Year, which will be awarded as part of officer installation in May. Secretary Myron Amstutz reminded members of the Plymouth Lions 35th anniversary event on January 21. In 1976 Ashland Evening was the sponsoring club and mentor to Plymouth as their club was chartered. Lion Bill Snyder thanked the 41 members who rang bells for the Salvation Army at Geyer’s Hawkins Market every Friday from November 19 until Christmas.

Per Drawing Chairperson Betty Helmsin, winners of the recent fund raiser were Peggy Briggs, Ronald Emminger, Vaughn Tennis, Bob Carver, Alex Valentine, Larry Cellar, Lavada Leiendecker and Richard Tucker. She thanked everyone who participated. The club will have several teams in the District Bowling Tournament on January 28. Members were encouraged to attend the Zone 7 Advisory meeting on January 30 at 7 pm at Celebrations....by Sallie! Next regular meeting is January 19 and Mayor Glen Stewart will be the speaker.

Respectfully submitted,

Ann Miller, PR Chair – Ashland Evening Lions Club
