The Ashland Evening Lions Club Board of Directors met January 12, 2012 at the FLAC Building. Voting members present were (Lions all) Clarence Hofer, Jim Hofer, Glen McClure, PDG Myron Amstutz, Kim Mercer, Ann Miller, Walt Gilmore, Pat Hofer, Dean Leiendecker, Tim Leslie, IPP Roger Long, Don Price, and Betty Helmsin. Non-Voting members present (Lions all) 1st Vice District Governor Forrest "Woody" Conrad, Jr., Carol Dickson, Duane Fulk, Clinton Haught, Cliff Hubler, Dick Reich and Ev Shonkwiler.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge led by 1st Vice President Lion Jim Hofer followed by the Invocation given by Lion Walt Gilmore.

The minutes of the December Board of Directors meeting were read and approved as read.

The Treasurer’s report was distributed and discussed. Treasurer Lion Kim Mercer reported that there is one member still owing dues. 1st Vice President Lion Jim Hofer moved to accept the Treasurer’s report, 2nd by 2nd Vice President Lion Glen McClure. Motion carried.

COMMUNICATIONS

Received a "Thank you" from Julie Taylor for her glasses. Received a "Thank you" from Jean Robertson for the flowers for Lion Lee Robertson’s funeral. Received a "Thank you" from Shirley Wolfe for the flowers for Lion Bill Wolfe’s funeral. Received a "Thank you" from LCI for the donation to International Relations. Received a "Thank you" from Lion Dale DeGirolamo for the donation to the District Hearing and Speech. Treasurer Lion Kim Mercer reported that the Club has received a donation from Lion Cliff and Corinne Hubler in memory of Lion Dick Kerr. Lion President Clarence announced the Danville Lions’ Raccoon dinner will be February 6, 2012.

Membership & Attendance

Lion Betty Helmsin reported everything OK.

Public Relations Article submitted to T-G has not been published yet. Newsletter deadline is January 18 for the February issue.

We Care

Flowers have been sent to four families. Emma Jeffries and Lion Carolyn Purdy are both still having problems.

Sight& Hearing

Lion Walt Gilmore reported that two applications have been approved and four more have been received. The Noon Lions Club paid the $75 they agreed to. Lion Larry Willis is asking the Club to purchase a machine that prints words in Braille. Lion Walt checked into it and found that it is software for the computer.

Entertainment

The April Lion/Daughter meeting is all set.

Recycle

Lion Dean needs help sorting steel and brass. The committee picked up a pickup load of computer stuff from Heyl Funeral Home.

Geraniums

Information will be forthcoming. The prices will be the same as last year for the small pots.

Santa House

Stored until next year.

Awards

Nominations need to be given to Lion President Clarence Hofer by the end of January.

Groceries

Had a delivery on December 9 and on January 1.

Parade

Have a follow up meeting planned for January 31 at DR Services

OLD BUSINESS: The Governor Banner patches have arrived.

NEW BUSINESS: Treasurer Lion Kim Mercer received a check from Pat Hildebrand in memory of Lions Bill Wolfe and Lee Robertson. She also received a check from Wilda Crawford in memory of Lions Jim Crawford, Lee Robertson and Bill Wolfe. Shirley Wolfe has an unlit Christmas tree she wants to give away. Lion Duane Fulk is proposing a meeting time change. He has discussed this with several members and also with Sally. 1st Vice President Lion Jim Hofer moved to bring this to a vote by the membership, 2nd by Treasurer Lion Kim Mercer. Motion carried.

Lion Pat Hofer questioned sending flowers or making a donation when a Lion dies. This is a committee decision.

Each Club is asked to donate a door prize for the District Bowling Outing. The Club will come up with something.
