INTRODUCING:

Lion Walter Gilmore

Lion Walter Gilmore joined the Lions 32 years ago. His neighbor Lion Max Barr introduced him to our Club and later became his sponsor. Lion Walter has been a great addition to the Club. He has been on many committees. These are only a few of them that represent his 32 year commitment to our community: Sight and Hearing, Food Trailer, Membership and Attendance, Public Relations and the Civic Committee. He has also served as President, Tail Twister and Lion Tamer.

When you serve on this many committees, there’s bound to be some surprises! Lion Walter had just such a situation during a sight and hearing screening at one of our Ashland City Schools. A little fellow walked into the room, took one look at Lion Walter and the equipment and crawled under the table refusing to come out! (Smile Lion Walter, you can’t "bat a thousand" all the time! )

Lion Walter was born in Monroe County, Ohio. He is retired from Norris Marathon and now works part time at Advanced Auto. He has been part of the Lions Bowling League for the past ten years. He says the other team members make it a fun experience. He is married to Jean and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They have two daughters--Jennifer and Deana and two grandchildren-- Kathryn and Matthew Recker. They are no strangers to the Ashland Evening Lions Club. Lion Walter has been bringing them since they were babies. ( "Atta Boy," Lion Walter! That’s the way to get new members into the Club! )

When I asked Lion Walter what attracted him to the Club, he didn’t hesitate. "The Lions Club is a good organization. They help a lot of people and I enjoy the fellowship I get from the Club." ( I would have to agree with Lion Walter. The Ashland Evening Lions certainly

has a great member reflected in Lion Walter, and we as a Club are lucky to have him. Thank you Lion Walter. We appreciate your dedication to the Club and to your community. )

Interviewer’s Comments:

I’m very excited to be doing the Lions’ profile interviews. I am one of the newer Club members, and I haven’t had the pleasure of knowing you all for years. But, this will give me that "up close look" at each of you who makes up this terrific Club. I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you better. So watch out, you may be my next interview!
